JOHN
PAUL
is the carpenter
at Kappa. He came here from Pennsylvania about 20 years ago. He is an excellent
workman and an honest and most excellent man. He is the father of Emanuel
Paul, El Paso's rotund and efficient marshall.

BOYD
is one of
Kappa's most respected citizens. He is from Ohio and is a wealthy farmer
and stock raiser. He is an educated gentleman and a successful school teacher.
He is interested in religious and temperance work and for some years kept
a general store at El Paso. He is prosperous and happy and would be more
so if he would accept of good advice and get married
DANIEL
KENNY
is another
old and well-known Kappa man. He now lives in Champaign county, but still
owns an 80-acre farm near here. For many years he ran a brick yard here
and did a large business. His sister, Mary, (now Mrs. Thomas Holohan) and
his brother, Martin (now deceased), were also well-known and respected
residents.
JOHN SCHAFFER
son of Orlando
Schaffer, deceased, is a young man but an old citizen of Kappa and highly
respected.
ISAAC DAVIDSON
is another
one of the old and highly respected citizens. By economy and good management
he has accumulated a very fair fortune.
MRS.
HURLEY
has been a
resident here for twenty years. She came to Kappa from St. Louis. Mrs.
Hurley is kind hearted and charitable and is now providing for and taking
care of her dead brother's orphans. Mrs. Hurley's family, that are at home,
consist of three daughters, who are most estimable and talented young ladies.
They are fine scholars and are favorites in the society in which they mingle.
