Homemade Ice Cream
(From Elinor Drake, who obtained it from Myrabel Theobald)
6 cups whipping cream
6 eggs (or 1.5 cups “Egg Beaters”)
3 pkt gelatin (knox)
4 ˝ teaspoons vanilla
˝ teaspoon table salt
3 cups sugar
Milk to fill remainder of 1.5 gallon mixing can
Ice cream freezer salt, perhaps 5 cups
Five 7-pound bags of ice for freezer.
Put about 1 cup of milk in a small bowl and put in gelatin. Let set until softened, then microwave about 45 seconds until dissolved. Stir.
Stir all ingredients except milk in a mixer adding some milk. Put in the mixing can and add milk up to the line. Then operate mixing freezer following instructions.
This makes 1.5 gallons. This recipe has been made by Elinor Drake (obtained from her cousin’s wife Myrabel Theobald) since she was married in 1950, and has been a hit at many family gatherings.
