Edith Steffen Scrapbook

The links below are of images of a scrapbook kept by Edith Steffen. The scrapbook contains newspaper articles, v-mail letters and bulletins from school events, primarily from the Second World War. The scrapbook is the property of family members. The Edith and Ed Steffen family lived on a farm 3 miles Northeast of El Paso. Many of the items included are of family members, fiends and neighbors and their comings and goings during WWII.

The Scrapbook contains items covering the time period of the late 1930’s to the late 1940’s, and includes one page of newspaper’ clippings from 1918, when Ed was called up for WWI. The scrapbook is not in chronological order. It appears that articles where probably kept and placing them in the scrapbook occurred later, either late in the war or after it. Items tend to be organized more according to categories of clippings rather than chronologically. Few of the items contain dates, so it is sometimes difficult to establish the time period of the clipping. Most of the items are clippings from the Bloomington Pantagraph, local El Paso papers and other papers from the area.

The scrapbook contains 51 pages, most of which take at least two images to cover everything on the page, so to see an entire page in the scrapbook you may need to look at two or three images. Click on the links below to view the images. Use your browser’s "back" button to return to this page. The images are good quality images in JPG format. The images are best viewed 100% or full size. In general the items are clear and easy to read.

These images of the scrapbook were scanned by Dick Steffen in March 2004.
