Centennial School – dedicated September 13, 1956.

In the fall of 1958, a new gymnasium, financed from the building fund as tax money became available, was completed west of the playroom area of Centennial School at a cost of $59,971. It has a wooden playing area of 92 x 58 feet, with concrete areas on both sides measuring 100 x 21 feet. In February 1966, a 35 x 65 foot study hall was built above the industrial arts room in the high school at a cost of $30,000.

A $140,000 bond issue was approved (310-231) on April 23, 1960 for construction of an addition to Jefferson Park grade school. The addition measures 58 x 79 feet, is brick construction and contains six classrooms, a mechanical equipment room, restrooms and storage. An enclosed passageway, at ground level, connects it to the old building. The structure was completed July 24, 1961.

Approval of a $215,000 bond issue on March 19, 1966, (385-249), provided for band and chorus rooms at Centennial School and for three classrooms and a study hall/library in the high school building. Remodeling the locker and shower rooms in the high school was also included in the project. The work was completed before September, 1967.

During the 1960's, state laws required classes to be arranged for children with special problems. For several years, parents in El Paso had discussed the need for a kindergarten. With the beginning of the 1966-67 term, five-year-olds began regular classes on a half-day basis; approximately one-half the children attended during the morning, and the remainder in the afternoon.

Starting in 1969, El Paso began a special education program in cooperation with the other schools in Woodford County and Unit 5
