All that was left of the fine "Eagle Block" building the morning of
July 20, 1894. The charred, wooden eagle fell from the top of the wall,
seen here, and was recovered and repaired by S. Y. Lishness. His grandson
has it atop his Ohio barn in 1954.
After the fire, the El Paso Journal set up in the old creamery on
Main St.
