History of this old town -- its first settlement and interesting personal mention of its first settlers.
Items about Kappa from other sources are included to make a more complete history. A number of pictures, old and recent, are added for interest and permanent record.
Pictures of Kappa in the past were submitted by Mrs. Gladys Morse, Mrs. Ethel Eft, Mrs. Marie Barth and Mr. Kenneth Dixon. Mr. Harold Kring presented a copy of a newspaper clipping from the Pantagraph of Kappa -- Past and Present, published on Feb. 20, 1886. The clipping also revealed an item published one week later giving more Kappa history. The author, Eugene Stone, called attention to the omission. The recent (1977) pictures were submitted by Marvin C. Keys. Mrs. Ethel Eft suggested the addition of items from the Woodford County History, 1968, and El Paso Story, 1974.
Kappa was established on Nov.
6, 1854 and later organized under general law in 1884 with Ira C. Stone
(father of Eugene Stone) as the first mayor.
