This was the first church to be erected by the Methodists. It was built in 1865 at a cost of $7000 and was torn down in 1894 so that a new building could be erected at the same site, Second and Chestnut Streets. As it happened, the new church burnt on May 12, 1895 and was replaced by an almost identical structure which is still being used by the church.
