sions. Then followed Rev. C. H. Brace one
year, F. H. Cumming two years, Rev. J. J. Walter one year, Rev. Thomas
Doney two years, Rev. G. C. Shafer two years, Rev. Joe Bell two years,
Rev. M. V. B. White two years and the present pastor, Rev. J. F. Robinson,
in the midst of his third year. On first day of July, 1894, the last service
was held in the old church and the building was taken down to give place
to a spacious and modern building. The new church was dedicated Dec. 2,
1894, by Rev. Lewis Curts, D. D., of Chicago. On the 12th day of May, 1895,
the new church was totally destroyed by fire. Without losing any time preparations
were made for rebuilding. With hearty good will the work was undertaken
and on the 11th of June the corner stone was laid and on Oct. 20, 1895,
the second temple, built at a cost of $12,000 was dedicated.

THE EL PASO BAPTIST CHURCH was organized Jan. 21, 1858, the organization
being affected at a meeting held in the old Crawford hall, which at that
time was standing on the corner just opposite the present church building.
For several years their worship was held at the various
homes of the members and in halls and rooms down town. The charter
or constituent members were: Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Branch, Anthony Daffarn,
Mrs. Sarah Daffarn, Lewis McOmber and wife, Jas. Crawford and wife, Jas.
T. Hewitt, Mrs. H. M. McOmber, H. H. Hewitt, Miss A. Whitaker, Miss Deborah
Whitaker and Israel McOmber.
Mr. Branch was pastor until '60 and was followed by S. F. Stimson, whose
